Archers try to meet qualifying standards
The Christchurch Archery Club recently held two double F.LT.A. tournaments which provided competitors with an opportunity to . qualify for selection in the New Zealand team for the world championships in Korea in October. The Olympic archer, Ann Shurrock, of Ashburton, who already had several qualifying scores, maintained her standard with a score of 2474 in the
double round last weekend.
Two weeks earlier Shurrock bettered her own New Zealand record at the 60m range. But as it was not an international star shoot the record will not be recognised. Another New Zealand Olympic representative, Neroli Fairhall, was suffering from flu and was unable to complete some of the rounds. She still scored 1218 for a single F.LT.A. on the last day. Dave McAuley, the national men’s champion, also exceeded the 1200 mark with 1204 on one day. Other archers were successful in qualifying for New Zealand merit stars for a single round.
They were:— 1100 star.— B. Inwood (Ashburton), 1125; R. Spaan (Christchurch), 1122.
1000 star.— D. Norder (Southbridge), 1083; S. Downs (Blenheim), 1056.
900 star.— J. Koltowski (Christchurch), compound bow class, 958; C. Wisbey (Christchurch), 984; A. Dawson (Christchurch), 995.
