Holiday activities

A variety of activities for children of all ages have been organised for the May school holidays, beginning next week.

A list of holiday activities in and around Christchurch will appear in “The Press,” Monday to Friday, for both weeks of the holidays. No enrolments are necessary for these activities.

Additional programmes, requiring enrolment because numbers are limited, have also been organised. These include:

Christchurch City Council recreation centres: Computer course, nine to 12 years, Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15, 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., $2.50. Wizards holiday special nights, all ages, Tuesday 14 and Monday 20, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., $2 for ticket (all games free). Dance workshop, eight to 12 years. Friday 24, 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon, $2. Netball skills clinic, all ages, Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Clown workshop, eight years and over, Wednesday 15, Thursday 16. and Friday 17. 2.30 p.m. to 4 p.m., $4.50. Canoeing, seven

to 12 years, (must be able to swim) Monday 13, Tuesday 14 and Thursday 16, 1.30 a.m. to 10 a.m., $5. Concession day at Queen Elizabeth II Park, all ages, Wednesday 15, 10 a.m. on, $7. Basketball clinic, Wednesday 22, 10.30 a.m. to 3 p.m., $1.20. Judo/self defence, eight years and over, Monday 13 to Thursday 16, 1 p.m. to 2.30 p.m., $6 for four day course. Archery, nine years and over, Monday 13, 2 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. and Tuesday 14, 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., $1.50. Trampolines for hire at reduced rate. Clay modelling workshop, five to eight years, Thursday 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and nine to 12 years, Wednesday 22, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., $3. Kite making, Thursday 23, 10 a.m. to 12 noon, $3. Gymnastics clinic, five to eight years, Monday 20 and Tuesday 21, 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., eight to 12 years, Monday 20 and Tuesday 21, 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m., $3 per clinic. Friday 17, 10.30 a.m. to 12 noon, $3. Y.M.C.A.: The Christchurch Young Men’s Christian Association has 13 holiday programmes running during the holidays. Areas covered in the first week include Hornby-Riccarton, Shirley, Lyttelton, Tiny Y and Christchurch city. During the second week programmes will run from Christchurch city, Tiny Y, Lincoln and districts, South Hoon Hay, New Brighton, and South East.

Secondary school students: Both the Christchurch City Council recreation department and the Y.M.C.A. have a number .of programmes designed for secondary students.

These include: entertainment days, rockclimbing, grass ski-ing, tramping trips, basketball, diving, squash, archery, body building, karate, confidence course, beauty therapy, self defence for girls, horse trekking, and river rafting.
