Family loses all in second fire
PA Hamilton A Hamilton family who managed to salvage some possessions when their home was destroyed by fire three months ago, lost everything in a fire on Tuesday night. In February fire swept through the garage and upper storey of Don and Rebe Mason’s Templeview home. They lost many prized possessions and memories, but were thankful they and their family escaped unharmed.
But on Tuesday night a second fire at a Whatawhata storage shed wiped out the remaining home contents and memories.
The Masons, and their daughter, Mrs Joan Lake, and her two children had stored furniture and personal items in the shed near the Whatawhata golf course while they rebuilt their home.
A fire-safety officer, Mr Pat Fitzell, said the cause of the fire was not known but it was not being treated as suspicious.
