Vote by hands
Voters in the mountain canton of Glarus in eastern Switzerland decided to lift the prohibition on concubinage — unmarried couples living together. About 7500 men and women gathered to take part in the “landsgemeinde,” a rare tradition whereby citizens vote by show of hands on questions concerning the community. Concubinage is still forbidden in a few Swiss cantons.—Glarus.
