Wage guideline ‘unilateral’
The president of the Federation of Labour, Mr Jim Knox, yesterday accused the Government of not taking the new wage-fixing legislation seriously. He was replying to comments by the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, to the effect that a guideline of no more than 10 per cent would be sought in the tripartite talks. Mr Knox said the F.O.L.
believed that if a figure were to emerge for the coming award round it should be arrived at "via negotiation rather than unilateral decision-making.” “The F.O.L would be seriously concerned if there was a return to the situation as existed under the Muldoon Government of news media statements made by politicians as to what is reasonable or not reasonable,” he said.
