Lendl struggles
NZPA-Reuter New York Ivan Lendl struggled early but had a straight-set victory in the first round of the $1,359,150 Tournament of Champions at the West Side Tennis Club in New York.
Lendl, the world’s secondranked player, beat the 179th-ranked Christo Steyn, of South Africa, 7-5, 6-3. New Zealand’s David Mustard beat Gianno Ocleppo, of Italy, 7-5, 3-6, 61.
