May holidays productions
For the May school holidays the Southern Ballet Theatre will present its popular production of “Tales from Beatrix Potter” from Saturday, May 18 to Wednesday, May 22. This 40-minute ballet, full of wit and charm, is aimed at young audiences in particular. Starting times of 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and 2 p.m. on weekdays have been chosen with young children in mind. Immediately after “Tales of Beatrix Potter,” the company will have two days of final rehearsals for the Autumn season, which opens on Saturday, May 25 and runs through to Saturday,
June 8. This is a programme of contrasts, opening with glamorous moments of another age in the classical divertissement, “Pas de Quatre.” It will be followed by “Sun Pictures,”’ a series of four dances each with the sun as its central theme. David Peake’s new ballet, a work of sensitive dramatic quality, “The Dove,” will be premiered during this season. The programme will conclude with “The Stolen Reflection,” one of the Tales of Hoffmann. Both programmes will be staged at the Southern Ballet Theatre in the Christchurch Arts Centre.
