Forum on Canterbury

For the second consecutive year the Canterbury division of the New Zealand Institute of Management has organised a forum for the region’s businesses. This year’s business forum, called “Canterbury — Future Directions,” will be held at the Christchurch Town Hall on April 12. The guest speaker will be the Minister of Overseas Trade and Marketing, Mr

Moore. The object of the forum is to share knowledge among the region’s business and administrative leaders on the future direction of Canterbury. This includes business opportunities, and what hinders these, whether Government strategies are a help or a hindrance, and what is being done to meet challenges in the region.

Besides Mr Moore, there will be a panel consisting of Mr Peter Hoskins, support director of Burroughs LINC Development Centre, Mr Don Meldrum, the managing director of A. R. Guthrey Travel and Shipping, Ltd; Mr Roland Clark, farmer and writer; and Mr John Pearson, the general manager of Toyota N.Z. (Chch), Ltd. The chairman of the forum will be Mr Maurice Houston, the president of the institute’s Canterbury branch and managing director of AIC Finance International, Ltd. One of the organisers of the forum, Mr Brendan Foley said that the panel members took in wide areas of business in the region, including new technology, farming, tourism, and manufacturing. Registrations had already come from both business and local body areas, he said. The forum starts at 7.30 a.m. with a breakfast, and will finish at 11 a.m. The cost will be $3O for institute members and $36 for non-members and those interested in registering can contact the institute’s Canterbury branch head office.
