The Mainland Touch invitation cricket team beat the Mayor of Ashburton’s XI in a high-scoring match in Ashburton yesterday. The Canterbury and New Zealand batsman, Paul McEwan, won the match with a six, with just seven balk remaining in the 45-
over match. Scores: Mayor of Ashburton XI 266/4 (R. Isherwood 74, J. Spicer 54, P. D’Auvergne 52 not out; M. Parker 2/18) lost to Mainland Touch Invitation XI 271/4 (J. McDermott 67, P. McEwan 80 not out, Parker 42, B. Hadlee 25; M. Hopwood 2/22).
