Youth brass band to go to Japan

A combined Christchurch schools youth brass band has been chosen to go to the 1985 Japan International Youth Music Festival at Shizuoka City in July. The band, representing Christchurch young people and 15 secondary schools, will also play in Tokyo and Kurashiki, one of Christchurch’s sister cities, and visit the Peace Park in Hiroshima. There are 44 band members and three reserve members. The present musical director of the Skellerup Brass Band, Mr Mervyn

Waters, has been appointed musical director for the tour. The head of music at Cashmere High School, Mr Graeme Pollock, and the head of music at Hillmorton High School, Ms Merryn Dunmill, are deputy musical directors for the tour.
