Nairn wins place

PA Auckland The Counties bowling centre has gained its first national representative. Papakura’s Wayne Nairn, the centre’s singles champion, was yesterday named in the New Zealand side to compete in the Pacific Games at Tweed Heads in September.

Nairn will play in the pairs with Taranaki’s national champion Maurice Symes and in the four which will be skipped by Dunedin’s Terry Scott.

The team is: singles, Symes; pairs, Nairn, Symes; triple, Stewart McConnell (Dunedin), Jim Christie (Taranaki) Scott; four,

McConnell, Nairn, Christie, Scott.

The selectors, Kerry Clark, Stan Seear and John Malcolm, have clearly picked a side with the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in mind. Top professionals such as Peter Beiliss, Rowan Brassey and Nick Unkovich are ineligible for this event.
