Middle East service

Overseas Containers, Ltd, which runs a joint service and space-sharing agreement with the Blue Star Line to the Middle East and Gulf area, has announced that its vessel Esperance Bay will soon enter the service between New Zealand ports and various ports in the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Singapore. The Esperance Bay is due in New Zealand on her maiden voyage late this month and has a capacity of 200 refrigerated containers and 450 general cargo containers. She will join Blue Star Line’s Australia Star and New Zealand Star on the joint service and the three ships will provide an approximate threeweekly service for New Zealand importers and exporters. The Minister of Overseas Trade and Marketing, Mr Moore, is expected to lead a trade mission to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf area later this year and O.C.L. said it expected trade to the area to increase. The Esperance Bay was being added to the service to provide better frequency for customers, O.C.L. said. The new vessel would call regularly at New Plymouth, Lyttelton and/or Port Chalmers.
