2000 in protest
NZPA-Reuter Paris About 2000 people staged an anti-racism demonstration in Paris at the week-end after a bomb attack injured 18 people at a cinema featuring a Jewish film (estival. Only one person was kept in hospital after the blast in a Jewish quarter of the city on Friday evening. Firemen said it was a miracle nobody had been killed. An anonymous telephone
caller claimed responsibility on behalf of various neoNazi groups and in Beirut the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) organisation claimed responsibility. The protest march had been organised after the murder of a young Arab in southern France a week ago, but the demonstrators condemned both incidents.
The casualty toll of antiSemitic attacks in Paris is 10 dead and 144 injured in the last six years.
