’Quake felt
A short, small earthquake was felt by some Christchurch people early on Saturday morning. The earthquake, which occurred about 3.50 a.m. on Saturday, did not register at the Seismological Observatory in Wellington, said a spokesman, Mr Murray Lowry.
“It would probably have been under 4 on the Richter scale, which makes it a very small earthquake,” he said. No call had been received from anywhere else in the South Island, he said, and so it seemed likely that the earthquake was under Christchurch, he said.
