Overseas roll up at Lincoln

Students from Ecuador, Egypt, Iceland, and Mauritius are among the 130 overseas students enrolled for courses at Lincoln College this year. This year’s roll of overseas students at the college is drawn from 38 countries, against 31 last year. Last year 122 overseas students attended Lincoln.

Twenty students from Malaysia form the biggest contingent from one country. Australia follows closely with 17 students, and the United States with 12.

Fifty-five of those from overseas are private students, 39 are on study

awards, and 36 are studying under bilateral aid. The overseas student adviser at Lincoln, Dr Kuan Goh, said some private students, particularly from Malaysia, had been at high schools in New Zealand.

“This helps greatly because they have become used to the language and to New Zealand conditions,” he said. Dr Goh said he would greatly appreciate people in Canterbury and Christchurch inviting overseas students into their homes. In this way the students could learn much more about the New Zealand way of life.
