Local interest in CCL branch
The Christchurch office of Computer Consultants, Ltd, will cease to be a branch of the North Island company from today, becoming a joint venture between CCL and local interests.
CCL Business Systems, Ltd, the new firm, is 50 per cent owned by Computer Consultants (CCL) and 50 Eer cent owned by four rothers who are the principals of the Christchurch computer company Businessworld Computers, Ltd. CCL’s Christchurch office ran a computer service bureau and also sold a range of computer systems and services. The new company will continue to offer the products and services previously offered by CCL but will also offer new products and services in the future.
Businessworld Computers, which sells IBM Personal Computers and other equipment from retail premises on the comer of Manchester Street and Hereford Street, was started by the Foulds brothers and other local interests. In the middle of last year the other interests sold their minority shareholding in Businessworld Computers to CCL.
The Foulds brothers and CCL also have an interest in Businessworld Computers in Auckland.
Mr Bruce Foulds said that the new joint venture “reflects the fact that we have had a very good relationship with the CCL board since the move last year.”
The decision by CCL to make the change reflected a remoteness from the main office of CCL in Auckland,, said Mr Foulds. “It reflected an uncertainty to the future potential of the South Island marketplace and a declining acceptance of the range of products that CCL was offering. “The joint venture was considered preferable to putting in a new branch manager and directing the operation from Auckland,” Mr Foulds said. Lately CCL has not had an over-all branch manager in Christchurch.
Mr Foulds noted that
there has been a restructurng of CCL’s business sysems division in the North sland. No CCL executives vere available to comment >n the changes. Mr Foulds will become nanaging director of CCL Justness Systems. He will )e joined by Mr Brian leald, who was IBM’s lealer manager in Christihurch up to a short time igo. Mr Heald will become narketing manager for the tew company. “We are putting together :he resources to take a much ’ more aggressive stance in the marketplace and to expand the products and services offered,” said Mr Foulds. “All decisions will be made locally but we will draw on CCL’s expertise when needed.” Businessworld Computers’ operation will continue unchanged, says Mr Foulds. Mr Maurice Foulds will become the general manager of Businessworld Computers in Christchurch.
