Air-cargo space sought

PA Wellington Main export groups have combined up to head off any shortage of air cargo space in the busy period before Christmas. The Exports and Shipping Council has formed an air cargo committee in Auckland to forecast air cargo needs for the main export commodities to the main

markets of North America, Japan, Australia, and Asia. The committee is headed by the chairman of the council, Mr Douglas Fraser. It will seek estimates of air cargo space requirements from fish, meat, horticulture, manufacturing, and livestock exporters. Airlines serving New Zealand will then be asked to

provide estimates of available cargo space for the October-February period. Mr Fraser said the information gathered would allow producer groups to react ahead of any problems that might arise. Last year air cargo space was seriously short during November and December and some exporters missed lucrative overseas markets.
