Principals unsure, M.P. claims
PA Wellington School principals and boards were unsure about proceeding with plans for 1986 because they did not know what would replace University Entrance, Miss Ruth Richardson (Nat., Selwyn) has told Parliament.
She asked what plans the Minister of Education, Mr Marshall, had for a transition to the new assessment structure for 1986 and beyond.
Mr Marshall said he had no plans for transitional procedures. The award available to students in the sixth form from 1986 would be substantial and credible.
Principals could proceed safely on the assumption that the sixth form without U.E. would continue in much the same form in the interim as more substantial sixth form programmes were being developed, Mr Marshall said.
He said he was waiting for the outcome of a Ministerial inquiry. It would be unfair to prejudge the outcome.
