E.E.C. opts for ‘clean’ cars

NZPA-Reuter Brussels European Economic Community Environment Ministers agreed yesterday on the phased introduction of low-pollution cars — a breakthrough in the fight against acid rain, which threatens to . destroy Europe’s forests and lakes. Tough, new European standards for exhaust emissions will come into force by 1989 for big cars, 1993 for medium-sized cars, and 1994 for the smallest cars.
