Labour assertion refuted
PA Wellington Assertions that the recent appointment of Ms Jenny Morel to the board of the Railways Corporation by the Labour Government was the first appointment of a woman to the board of a leading Government trading organisation were not correct, said the National member of Parliament for Rotorua, Mr Paul East, yesterday. He said the National Government appointed Mrs Cecilie Rushton, a lawyer practising in Rotorua, as a director of the Bank of New Zealand in 1978. Mrs Rushton served on the board for six years before being removed by the Labour Government soon after it took office. Other such appointments by National included chairmanship of the Accident Compensation Corporation and appointments to the Tourist Hotel Corporation, the Broadcasting Corporation, and the Apple and Pear Marketing Board, said? MjfEast. 3
