Jail term for rape

PA Wellington Two youths were jailed yesterday for two years and nine months for the rape of a woman at Naenae, in Hutt Valley, on December 4.

Aru Junior Strickland, aged 17, and a youth, aged 16, both unemployed, pleaded guilty to rape. Mr Justice Jefferies in the High Court said Strickland’s use of alcohol began when he was 11 years old and resulted in the behaviour which brought him before the Court.

The sentence of two years and nine months was to be served at a youth prison, his Honour said.

A third youth, Isaac Johnson, aged 18, was jailed for two years for indecently assaulting the woman. He also pleaded guilty.
