Complaint about loud speech
PA Wellington An Opposition member of Parliament wants the volume of the Deputy Prime Minister’s voice “turned down.” Mr J. F. Luxton (Nat., Matamata) complained yesterday about the noise level in the Parliamentary debating chamber after a speech by Mr Palmer. "I feel that one’s head rings with the noise effect and it is bad for the hearing at decibel level of that magnitude,” he said. “In my view members of this House should take into account other members of the House if we are to sit in it. “I think there should be a level of speech that is acceptable for our hearing.”
Mr Palmer defended his loud speech, during the third reading of the Appropriation Bill, saying that Opposition members had continually interjected. It had been necessary to raise his voice to speak over • them.
