Liverpool hopes alive
Liverpool kept alive its hopes of retaining the European Cup soccer title with a quarter-final win over Austria Vienna on Wednesday. A 4-1 win in the second leg of the tie put Liverpool through, 5-2, on aggregate. The striker, Paul Walsh, scored twice but missed a penalty shortly before the end. The other three semi-final-ists are Juventus, of Italy, Panathinaikos, of Greece, and Bordeaux, of France. Everton beat Fortuna Sit-
tard, of West Germany, 2-0, in its second leg match in the European Cup-winners’ Cup. Everton went through, 5-0, on aggregate. Inter-Milan, despite having a defender sent off in the ninth minute, beat Cologne, 3-1, to advance with a 4-1 aggregate win. Manchester United tumbled out of the UEFA Cup competition. It lost, 1-0, to Videoton, of Hungary, after extra time, which the left the aggregate score, 1-1. United then lost the penalty shoot-out, 5-3.
