Kenny out of boxing
PA Wellington The Olympic Games heavyweight, Michael Kenny, is unavailable for the Oceania boxing championships in Melbourne in May. Kenny, beaten in his first bout at the Los Angeles Olympics last year, has decided to concentrate on his mid-year university examinations instead. Kenny is keen to further his ring career and has his sights set on selection in the 1986 Commonwealth Games team. His decision to opt out of the Oceania tournament means he will not be considered for the Oceania team for the world championships later in the year. He will also miss the New Zealand team’s trip to Wales, Ireland and possibly the United States, in June.
