Yacht on display

The round-the-world racer Enterprise New Zealand will arrive at Lyttelton this morning. She will be in port for two days, leaving on Friday night. While at Lyttelton, the yacht will be open to the public, from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. today, and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The public will also be welcome to join the crew for a sail on Friday afternoon. The chairman of the group backing the yacht, Mr Max Jones, said that depending on weather between 40 and 100 people could be taken aboard for a sail.

The yacht broke her main halyard off East Head at the entrance to Tory Channel yesterday, NZPA reported. The break occurred when the crew was hoisting the mainsail — which had been returned to the yacht at Picton after being torn at Napier last Saturday.

Enterprise returned along Tory Channel for repairs, but was able to get under way again by 9 a.m.
