Soviet grain buys
Soviet grain imports were expected to set a record this year, the United States Agriculture Department says, revising its estimate to 53 million tonnes. The new figure would exceed the previous mark of 47 million tonnes set in the marketing year of July, 1981, through June, 1982, the department’s foreign agricultural service said. The revised estimate was up two million tonnes from last month’s figure, reflecting continued heavy shipments to the Soviet Union during the winter and high grain sales commitments from all countries of origin. -4 Washington.
