Cookie Wadderin looks a top chance to win the Lord Shannon Cup, the feature event at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s on-course meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park tomorrow evening. Cookie Wadderin has been sparingly raced over the last couple of seasons because of serious toe injuries, but under the astute care of the dog’s Kaiapoi trainer, Pat Cagney, Cookie Wadderin bounced back to form

Smooth Shazam, trained by Ray Adcock, created a big impression with a smart all-the-way heat win in 34.105. The main worry for her is the box draw (No. 7), but she looks well above average and should be ready for this assignment. Merely Magic, from the coveted inside draw, will have his supporters too, and could even start favourite. He led all the way to win his heat in 34.465, and, although the line-up is a little stronger, should still be in the firing line throughout. Any of the others should be safely held, although Riverside Mint is consistent and rates a place chance at least.
