The ball is contested in a rugby match between members of the Scott Base and McMurdo Station catering service and the New Zealand Army played at Williams Field, Antarctica. The match, played with an American grid-iron football, was won by the army, 8-4. Improvisation was also needed for the goal-posts: their positions were marked at either end of the field with food dye. The game was the only one of the summer support season.
