Homosexual law changes

Sir,—Perhaps church leaders are silent about law reform because they try to follow the example of their leader. Jesus Christ had nothing to say about homosexuals and homosexual acts. However, on the question of whether all “sins” must also be “crimes,” He did give us a lead. When the legalistic scribes and Pharisees brought Him the woman taken in adultery calling for her to be stoned under the law, Jesus shamed them and said to the woman “Neither do I condemn you.” The church may continue to view homosexual acts as sins but that does not mean they (or adultery, or contraception, or masturbation, or ... ) must also remain crimes. At least, Jesus Christ didn’t think so. — Yours, etc., RALPH KNOWLES. March 12, 1985.
