Petitions seek animal species protection

Two petitions about animal rights will be set up in Cathedral Square tomorrow by a Christchurch animal rights worker, Miss Natalie Taylor. One appeals to the Singapore Government to stop the trading of endangered species in Singapore. The

other petition, seeking a ban on importing frogs’ legs to New Zealand, will be sent to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Caygill. Miss Taylor said that many animals of endangered species were taken to Singapore each year and traded. Ivory and

rhinoceros horns also were traded in Singapore. The ban on frogs’ legs from India and Bangladesh should be enforced because the frogs had their legs cut off while they were alive, she said. Miss Taylor is funding the petitions at her own expense.
