Bruce Smith suspended
PA Timaru Bruce Smith had his horseman’s licence suspended until after March 18 after his mount Sir Ashley was relegated from third to fourth in the Transport Waimate Cup at Waimate yesterday. Sir Ashley shifted ground at the home turn when not sufficiently clear and the stipendiary stewards’ committee resolved that Ocean Guard’s chances had been affected. Walden Pond, the winner of the Harrison Handicap, was relegated to second behind Been Burgled (Jim Collett) and his rider. John Dowling, was subsequently fined $45. •In the Spot Morgan Maiden, Ceresia, which finished second, was relegated to third for interference to Coreagle (John Dowling). Telstar was a late scratching from the Mcllwraith Maiden when the judicial committee resolved that his name had been miss-spelt in the official card and the horse did not have sufficient identification.
