Convincing win
The North Canterbury colts cricket team had a convincing win over Ashburton at Leeston on Sunday. Dean Lund assured North Canterbury of a victory with an enterprising unbeaten 116. He was well supported by Andrew Barkle with a hard hit 46. North Canterbury lost its last wicket on the last ball of the sixtieth over with its score at 248. Ashburton had little reply losing its last wicket in the thirty-fourth over with only 71 runs on the board.
Gary Chamberlain was the
main wicket-taker for North Canterbury with four for seven, while Henry Richards took three wickets for seven. Only three Ashburton batsmen managed to make it into double figures. Scores: North Canterbury 248 (D. Lund 116 n. 0., A. Barkle 46, B. Plaskett 18, C. Rolfe 12, A. McDonald 10; T. Sullivan 1/23, S. Scott 3/49, D. Pluckett 1/32, A. Cavill 1/52) beat Ashburton 71 (C. Bruce 14, R. Paterson 11, T. Sullivan 10; H. Richards 3/7, G. Chamberlain 4/7, W. Cullen 1/25).
