Broader farm settlement scheme review

PA Auckland The Government is looking at interim measures to keep farm settlement going. The 1984-85 season farm settlement programme was deferred after the Budget, affecting about 60 farms, to allow a thorough review of the scheme. The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, has said the review will now be much broader than earlier planned.

Reporting date would be the end of July rather than earlier this year. However, because the longer review could prevent settlements under the scheme in the 1985-86 season, the Minister of Lands, Mr Wetere, had been asked to report to the Cabinet by April 30 on ways to offer farms for settlement next season. The deadline for submissions is May 17.
