A two-bedroom town house on Harakeke Street was sold at public auction for $128,000 on February 28. The house, built of permanent materials and including a modern kitchen, separate dining room, and double garage, has a Government Valuation (1980) of $64,000. A spokesman for Whittle, Knight and Boatwood, the estate agency, said that there was a large crowd at the auction, with spirited bidding. A double-storey house on Carlton Mill Road, which overlooks the Avon River

and Hagley Park, was passed in at auction on March 6 for $157,500. Mr Craig Prier, the estate agent from Kent Prier Real Estate, who handled the auction, said that the reserve was just over $160,000. The asking price for the proerty is now $169,500. A lot of improvement work has been carried out on the property since the 1984 Government Valuation was struck at $105,000. Mr Prier said that about 15 people attended the auction with some genuine bidding.

The house includes four large bedrooms and a sunroom, a large kitchen, and lounge, and low-mainten-ance grounds. The auctioneer was Mr Kent Prier. A large, three bedroom house on McCormacks Bay Road was passed in at auction for $127,000 on February 28. The house is now on the market for $130,000. The house has easy access and wide views out across the bay. It is eight years old, and is 1600 sq. ft. in size. Real estate spokesman for Binns, Barber, and Keenan Ltd, Mr Rawstrom, said that about a dozen people attended the acution, with genuine bidding. The. Government Valuation (1984) is $102,000.
