McDonald’s looks at Christchurch

McDonald’s Family Restaurants should have its first Christchurch hamburger outlet within two years. Although rumours about the American hamburger chain have cropped up several times in recent years, the company has never bought a city site. Its 19 New Zealand restaurants are all in the North Island. The company admits that it has looked at property over the years, but it has not yet found a suitable site at the right price. The McDonald’s managing director in New Zealand, Mr Gary Lloyd, said yesterday that no site had yet been selected, and no Christchurch operators had been signed up.
