Speaker discharged
PA Timaru Parliament’s Speaker, Sir Basil Arthur, was discharged from Wellington Hospital on Sunday after undergoing stomach surgery — and wasted no time getting back to his Parliamentary tasks. Sir Basil, who was admitted to hospital on February 28 for surgery for a stom-
ach ulcer, was going over papers from his office yesterday morning. However, he said it would be several weeks before doctors would permit him to return to Parliament, or to travel home to Timaru. He said his recovery was on target and his spirits had been lifted by being able to leave hospital.
