Golf team selected

PA Invercargill Janice Arnold (Waikato), Debbie Smith (Nelson) and Jan Scandrett (Otago) will form the New Zealand women’s golf team to defend the Queen Sirikit Cup in Kuala Lumpur in May. The team was named after the Southland invitation tournament at Otatara at the week-end. Karrin Duckworth (Auckland) is the non-travelling reserve. New Zealand won the cup against eight other countries at Kooralbyn Valley,

in Queensland, last year, when it played in this prestigious tournament for the first time. Arnold, Waikato’s Brenda Ormsby and Scandrett made the team then, but Ormsby is unavailable for the tournament this year. The Ladies’ Golf Union, which named the team, also announced today that the winner of the 36-hole stroke play qualifying round at the Stylemaster tournament in May will represent New Zealand in Victoria in October.
