Gore trainer has strong Waimate Cup record

Ocean Guard earns consideration for the first leg of the Waimate club’s T.A.B. double after a third over the same distance, 2000 metres, at Cromwell on March 2. From his position in the handicap, on 53kg, he seems likely to be the strongest rival for Sir Ashley, which will be attempting to im-

prove on two thirds at his last three starts. Otago stables have a weak record in the race in recent years, but Allez Bijou could represent Wingatui with credit this time. This six-year-old daughter of the leading stallion, Noble Bijou, was successful over the Waimate Cup distance at Cromwell earlier in the month. Sea Poppy, a speedster

from the Brydon Mills stable at Riccarton, should pose problems for the others at 1200 m in the D.B. Sprint, second leg of the T.A.B. double and T.A.B. trifecta event. Cadmium has winning form from Cromwell to advance his claim for a second successive win in the race, and Tim Lea needs only run reasonably close to his best form to battle into one of the places.
