Chance for Hondo’s Dream to redeem himself

By

G. K. YULE

Hondo’s Dream, a dismal failure when the win favourite in the Hororata Cup on Saturday, will have a great chance of reinstating himself as one of the more promising pacers in Canterbury when he races at Addington Raceway this evening.

The speedy son of Hondo Away will attempt to give away starts of up to 20m to all but two of his rivals in the Charles S. Thomas Handicap, the first leg of the T.A.B. double on the second night of the Metropolitan Club’s March meeting. Hondo’s Dream has shown ability far above average in a number of his races and in spite of Saturday’s failure, he looks the one to beat in this event. Sure He Can was second to Ballochmyle in the Grey-

mouth Cup earlier in the month at his most recent start. He has not been guilty of a bad run since joining lan Cameron’s team, and looks ready to extend his splendid record. Spry Joker will not be set an easy task from 30m, but he should be improved as a result of the race he had last Wednesday when he finished fast for a close sixth behind Bobanish. He will only need to receive a reasonable run over the final stages to return a dividend.

Armorel, Watbro Ford, Richina, Watbro Cloud and Jovial Jan all raced quite well on the first night of the meeting and they should add interest to the finish. Sure Winner, Wedgewood and Roman Guy could be as good as any in the W. E. Lowe Handicap, the second leg of the double. Poor Boy, Pitcher, Swift Dell, Springfield Command and Wee Roger have shown fair form at times and they could be the pick of the remainder.
