Wide variety of Australian products displayed

Australian manufacturers involved in the engineering industry have earned a formidable reputation as innovators in this diverse and specialised area. Twenty-five Australian companies will exhibit a comprehensive range of engineering and related products, only some of which are described in this article.

The Australian manufacturing company, Macnaught Pty, Ltd, of Sydney, will exhibit its quality range of greasing and pumping equipment, which is sold in more than 60 countries including the United States of America, Japan and Europe. The range includes portable hand-operated and airoperated greasing systems designed to fit oil refinery grease containers in New Zealand, drum/tank pumps and flow meters.

The portable, hand-oper-ated greasing system on show comes in two lightweight models called the Minilube and Superlube. Both units feature a springloaded grease pump which ’ gives the user either 30 or 80 shots of grease before repriming is necessary. The portable air-operated greasing system to be displayed also comes in two models which feature a noncorrosive air motor and a standard “booster” gun which enables the user to generate up to 10,000 psi where necessary. A comprehensive range of equipment which meets stringent noise regulations and overcomes vibrations in both static and mobile applications will be exhibited by BTR Silentbloc. The company has been manufacturing vibration

isolation equipment in Australia for more than 35 years. The range of mountings will support loads ranging from 4.5 kg to 2300 kg with various fittings to suit all circumstances, and it includes a group of mountings designed specifically for marine and mobile application.

Leading arc welding specialist, The Lincoln Electric Company, of Sydney, manufactures sophisticated, high-technology machines for the metals industry, and has applied its ideas to welding units for primary industry.

The company has developed a range of economic welding units farmers can use to carry out repair, maintenance and new-fabri-cation jobs which otherwise require outside help. Representatives at the company stand will give a working demonstration of the new Weldanpower 300 multi-arc power source, one of several welding units specially designed for farm and industry use. Another product in the Lincoln range is the lightweight, portable LN-22 wire feeder which allows semiautomatic welding to be carried out in hard to reach places. The Sydney firm, Ramsey Engineering, has specialised in the field of process instrumentation and automatic control for more than 17 years and manufactures its products through 10 plants worldwide. The product range includes level monitoring systems, tramp metal detectors, density measurement equipment and sampling devices.

The firm is considered a world leader in the manufacturer of conveyor-belt scales, and produces a range of models to suit client requirements. The series 20A model is the company’s most popular belt scale system because of its simple weighbridge, consistent performance and easy installation. The Sydney firm, Thomas Royce Instruments Pty, Ltd, manufactures plastic granular drying equipment and mould temperature machines which are reliable, efficient and simple in design.

The company’s range includes refrigerated dehumidifiers which provide air at a substantially lower level than the moisture equilibrium point of all hygroscopic thermoplastic materials.

This action prevents further moisture absorption and, when coupled with a Thomas Royce hopper dryer, greatly increases the dehumidifier’s ability to remove moisture from the plastic granules.

An Australian manufacturer of heat sealing equipment for plastic and other materials recently signed an agreement to produce its comprehensive range of products in New Zealand.

The Helix range from Rota Pak Industries Pty, Ltd, will be manufactured under licence by Weltex Plastic Industries.

One of the most versatile sealers in the Helix range is the 87 series which is designed specifically for premade polyethylene bags to take sizes from 250 mm to 750 mm wide.

The unit is bench mounted and pedal operated. The Sydney company also manufactures semi and fully-automatic shrink and overwrapping equipment for small products, such as cosmetic bottles, up to large-volume items such as pallet bags. A comprehensive range of pneumatic conveying systems has been developed by NEI John Thompson (Australia), of Sydney, to suit long and short distances and

a wide range of materials. The firm has developed specialised systems for long-distance conveying up to 3km, without any booster stations. The design of short-distance conveying systems is dictated by the material characteristics. Marketed in New Zealand under the name ThompsonBecorit, the range sets new standards when compared with the conventional coal elevators and conveyors in industrial boiler houses. The range provides prac-

tical fuel and ash handling, and offers equipment with clean, quiet, unobtrusive characteristics which is reliable and easy to maintain. The Sydney firm. K. D. Binnie ’Engineering Pty, Ltd, produces muffler and exhaust-pipe manufacturing equipment which is fast, accurate and inexpensive.

Time and money need not be wasted in ’ changing machines over for low volume runs of different types of mufflers and exhaust pipes.

All five machines required for the manufacturer of a muffler are produced by the company with optional extra machines. The Model 250 Production Bender is designed specifically for the production of exhaust pipes with complicated bends. The machine’s wide range of applications includes the manufacture of furniture, outdoor equipment. playground equipment, materials handling, boilermaking and general engineering.
