Equipment and componentry

The latest in machinery products, techniques and technology in the engineering and woodworking industries of New Zealand will be on display in Christchurch this week.

The variety of products exhibited will be vast, covering almost everything from pumping equipment to breathing apparatus. The first Southern Machinery Show was staged in the “garden city” three years ago, and it became obvious from the outstanding success of that exhibition that the South Island had need of its own, specialised machinery show. The second Southern Machinery Show will take place at the King Edward Barracks tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, opening from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on each of the three days. The show will feature en-

gineering and wood-working equipment, materials-hanc ling equipment and related gear, machinery components and servicing equipment, and both combustion and fire-fighting equipment. Concrete vibrators and spray-painting guns will be on show, and the range of exhibits will even include cultivators, farm irrigation equipment, and cattle-hand-ling systems. The comprehensive range of products includes many that break new ground in the field of light, medium and heavy engineering. The show has been planned to fill the need of Canterbury and South Island manufacturers to see the latest available machinery and componentry — without travelling to Auckland or overseas. For the first time, the Australian Department of

Trade is organising an Australian display. The Australian Trade Commissioner newlyappointed to Wellington, Mr Terence Cronin, reports that 25 Australian companies will be taking part. The products they have come to publicise will find ready use in local light and heavy manufacturing, and the agricultural and construction industries. Some of the Australian companies will be seeking New Zealand agents, and contact opportunities will also exist for New Zealand companies interested in manufacture-under-licence arrangements with Australian firms. One of the features of the show will be the international launching of a new format of industrial switchgear from ASEA Electric (N.Z.), Ltd.

In 1982, about 5000 visitors from many parts of the South Island attended the

show, and the organisers — XPO Exhibitions — are confident that this number will

be exceeded by at least 1000 at this year’s’display. The following pages men-

tion a small sample of the range of products to be seen.
