Asbestos trial
NZPA-AP San Francisco A trial to determine who should be liable for 24,000 lawsuits claiming injury or death from asbestos opened yesterday in an auditorium converted into a courtroom to handle the large number of people engaged in the case.
The trial concerns five asbestos manufacturers, 75 insurance companies, 60 years of insurance polices, 96 law firms, and billions of dollars in potential claims by workers blaming asbestos exposure for giving them a serious or fatal lung disease.
