Kittens need caring homes
Three abandoned kittens which have taken refuge with Mrs Sheila Henshaw, a voluntary worker with the Cats’ Protection League, at her cattery in Christchurch. Mrs Henshaw is trying to find homes for about 19 stray kittens found since the end of the holiday season. Her cattery is one of two that is used by the league, which last year managed to place 1365 stray cats. Many cats are found dumped in cemeteries, bushes, and rivers. Sometimes unwanted kittens put into letterboxes,
said the president of the league, Mrs Kathleen Wenniger. Cats that survive these indignities are cared for by members of the league, or placed in homes which have agreed to “foster” the cats until a suitable family can be found for them. - The league was founded in Christchurch in 1&71 by Mrs Ruby Austin. Tiiere are now branches in Hamilton and Wellington./
