Rescue off coast

Two persons drifting helplessly in a 3m sailing dinghy off the coast at Scarborough were rescued by jet boat last evening. The Sumner Lifeboat Institution was alerted about

7.40 p.m after the pair sent up a flare, said its secretary, Mr Walter Baguley. Their attempts to sail or

row the dinghy back to shore were thwarted by an offshore wind, he said. The jet boat quickly reached the dinghy and had towed it back to shore by 8.15 p.m.

Its two occupants, aged in their 20s, had suffered no ill effects, Mr Baguley said.
