Police release name of drowned man
PA . Wellington The police yesterday released the name of a Wellington man who drowned, off Riverdale Beach in Wairarapa yesterday. He was
Dean Peter Bradbury, aged 20, of Island Bay. His body was recovered yesterday morning. Mr Bradbury and a friend, Julie Douglas, also of Wellington, were swept more than 300 m to sea from the beach by strong currents.
Miss Douglas, aged 23, struggled for 45 minutes to support Mr Bradbury before they were swept apart by, a wave, the Masterton' police said.
Another swimmer was believed to have rescued the exhausted and shocked Miss Douglas. Searchers are still looking for a fisherman missing on the Manawatu River near Palmerston North.
Jephson Everett, aged 61, of Palmerston North, failed to return from a fly-fishing expedition on Sunday.
