V.I.P.S to try music
PA Wellington The Leader of the Opposition, Mr McLay, conducting “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” Wellington’s Mayor, Mr lan Lawrence, conducting “Lawrence of Arabia,” the cricketer, Jeremy Coney, conducting “Come to the Ball” ... Eight V.I.P.S will be guest conductors in the Wellington Regional Orchestra’s V.I.P. Concert on February 12. The V.I.P.S are people accustomed to taking centre stage but who may never
have conducted an orchestra. The orchestra’s manager, Mrs Elizabeth Dean, and the chief conductor, William Southgate, have tried to assign music appropriate to each guest. The triple gold-medallist, lan Ferguson, will conduct “Cruising Down the River”; Lindsay Yeo, “The Flight of the Bumble Bee”; and the television weather girl, Sue Scott, “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head.” The concert is sponsored by the New Zealand Insti-
tute of Professional Engineers — its president, Mr Alec Stirrat, will conduct “Bridge Over the River Kwai.” Mrs Dean said that music had not yet been selected for Miss Patricia Bartlett, who would also be a guest conductor.
