Blundering out of A.N.Z.U.S.
Sir,—The avalanche of letters from the usual Left-wingers criticising your editorial on A.N.Z.U.S. reinforces the fact that the rosyspectacled peace movement was bom in the Kremlin, and is financed and nurtured by Western socialist groups. It now attracts numerous well-meaning, starry-eyed disciples everywhere, with the amusing promise of a daisy-chain paradise. Everywhere, that is, except the Soviet bloc. Having insulted our
only powerful ally, the richest nation in the international jungle, we smugly hope to get away scotfree, but it is a real world, and idealism can. be excruciatingly expensive. We have yet to pay. Mr Lange has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize but in view of this latest debacle, surely a Hero of the Soviet Union award would be more appropriate. — Yours, etc.,
K. J. PHILLIPS. February 6, 1985.
