Dowling suspended three others fined

PA Invercargill John Dowling was suspended and Robert Montgomery, Bruce Laking and Tane Matthews (two offences) were fined by the judicial committee of the Southland Racing Club on Saturday. Dowling, the rider of Spotted Wonder in the Glengarry Maiden No. 1, was suspended up to and including January 9 when found guilty of allowing his mount to shift ground inwards when not sufficiently clear and crowd Quite Right near the 200 m. Matthews, who had been engaged and declared as the rider for Carpe Diem in the Invercargill Gold Cup, was fined $lOO for being excessively overweight. Neil Ridley, the horse’s trainer, was granted permission to change his rider.
