Foreign exchange
The foreign exchange market opened quietly in Wellington yesterday after the Christmas holiday. The United States dollar was quoted at 3.1310y30 marks, up from its close on Monday of 3.1160/80. In yen, the U.S. dollar opened at 249.50/60, up on its close of 248.15/25. Sterling traded at $U51.1670/85 after its Monday close of ?U51.1680/00. The New Zealand dollar eased from a closing SUSO.4BOO/05 to open at 5U50.4792/97 and move to $U50.4789/93.
