Miandad recalled
NZPA-Reuter Lahore Javed Miandad has been reinstated as Pakistan cricket captain for the tours to New Zealand and Australia beginning next month. The one surprise in the 16-man squad was the inclusion of the former skipper, Zaheer Abbas, who had said
he would be unavailable after leading Pakistan to a 2-0 victory over New Zealand in the three-test home series earlier this month. Miandad, aged 27, a veteran of 65 tests, led Pakistan in the 1979-80 and 198081 home series against Australia and West Indies, the 1981 tour of Australia and the 1982 contests against the
touring Sri Lankans. The squad is: Javed Miandad (captain), Mudassar Nazar (vice-captain), Zaheer Abbas, Wasim Raja, Salim Malik, Shoaib Mohammad, Mohsin Khan, Qasim Omar, Iqbal Qasim, Abdul Qadir, Anil Dalpat, Rameez Raja, Tahir Naqqash, Azeem Hafeez, Mohsin Kamal, Wasim Akram.
